Why Granite Countertops Might Be Right For Your Kitchen Upgrade

Juanita Douglas

Are you planning on upgrading your cabinets and countertops? If so, you are likely trying to determine which materials you will use. There are a number of reasons that granite countertops are an ideal investment. The following points will help you understand why they are more than aesthetically appealing.

Anti-Scratch

You will appreciate that granite will not scratch as the result of most things in your kitchen coming into contact with it. Some people mistakenly think that granite can scratch due to blemishes on the granites surfaces that they have seen. It is important to note that these blemishes are generally caused by handling in a quarry setting. It takes something stronger than granite to scratch it. For example, kitchen utensils and pots and pans coming into contact with granite countertops are not generally going to cause damage because the items are not stronger than the granite. However, granite that comes into contact with granite could produce a scratch.

Stain Repellant

The granite that is typically used for countertops is sealed. The sealing process makes it non-porous. This means that substances cannot penetrate through it. This results in making granite countertops stain repellant. If granite has not been sealed, it will be porous. This means that it could absorb stains. Some granite is purposefully stained during processing to produce colored hues of granite. This is typically done during the manufacturing phase of countertops. The process can make countertops more appealing for specific customer tastes. For example, a homeowner might want granite countertops due to their durability, but they may want the countertops in a solid black color.

Food Prep Surface

You are probably thinking that new granite countertops will eliminate your need for a cutting board in your kitchen. Your knives are likely not going to damage granite countertops. The issue is that granite is durable and cutting across it may dull your knives over time. However, you can sharpen your knives as needed if this is not a major issue for you. As far as preparing other foods on the countertops, you can do so with the confidence that you are working on a hygienic surface and cleanup is easy. For example, cutting boards can harbor germs from meat, but non-porous granite countertops can aid in reducing the chances of foodborne illness as long as you clean the surface when you are finished.

A granite countertop supplier is a good resource to use to learn more reasons granite is worth considering as your new countertop material. They can also answer specific questions you have about granite and other areas of your home where it can be used.

About Me
Flower Planting 101: Simplifying Your Planting Maps

One of the things that I always loved about spring as a kid was watching all of the flowers my mother planted suddenly come up from the ground and then bloom into vibrant, beautiful colors. When I bought my own house, one of the first things I wanted to do was plant flowers. What I didn't realize was how hard it could be to figure out what to plant where. From the sun demand to the companion planting guides, it was complicated. I created this site to help others just like me create the flower gardens they always wanted without the struggles that I faced.
