Making Your Outdoor Space Usable In All Kinds Of Weather

Juanita Douglas

Having a great outdoor space like a patio or deck on your home is wonderful in the summer or any time of year that it is warm enough to use. But what if it is too warm to use it? There are some things you can do to make the space usable even when the weather's not cooperating. Here are a couple suggestions to help you make that outdoor space a great place for you and your family to enjoy.

Putting Up an Awning

If you are tired of baking in the hot sun when you are outside, one option is to put up an awning that covers the area you use outside. With many different patterns and colors available, you can choose one that fits in with the color and style of your home so it will look great as well as protect you from the sun or rain. There are kits available that allow the homeowner to install their own awning or you can higher and company to do it for you.

Screening in Your Patio

If you want to be able to use your newly covered patio without the fear of bugs and mosquitoes biting you, you might want to consider adding screened panels around the patio that meet the patio awning and close the gaps between the two pieces. With the bugs trapped on the outside, you can enjoy the cool air and evening sunset from the inside. Add some nice outdoor furniture and you have a great spot to relax.

Outdoor Furnishings For Your Patio

If you want to have some furnishings on your patio, you need to select some that are designed to withstand the weather that it will be exposed to. There are many different options that range from very cheap to very expensive with styles and colors that can be matched to your home or the awning if you choose to. Most home improvement stores, departments stores, and some discounts stores carry furnishing that can be used outside. With proper care, a good set of outdoor furniture can last for many years, even if left outside all year.

Outdoor Fireplace or Fire Pit

If you live in an area that allows outside fires, an outdoor fireplace can be a great addition to your space. Placing it far enough away that it will not burn the screen or awning is important. Remember to check for embers coming from the fire and floating up into the air. If they are blowing toward the awning, you might have to put the fire out until the wind changes.

About Me
Flower Planting 101: Simplifying Your Planting Maps

One of the things that I always loved about spring as a kid was watching all of the flowers my mother planted suddenly come up from the ground and then bloom into vibrant, beautiful colors. When I bought my own house, one of the first things I wanted to do was plant flowers. What I didn't realize was how hard it could be to figure out what to plant where. From the sun demand to the companion planting guides, it was complicated. I created this site to help others just like me create the flower gardens they always wanted without the struggles that I faced.
